Professional Identity 

As I have reflected on my internship as a student counselor I can fully process how much I have evolved professionally over the past year. When I initially started the program I was nervous about which theoretical approach I would utilize in my practice. Over the semesters I learned about different modalities and understood the importance of utilizing foundational counseling skills such as active listening, open ended questions, and motivational interviewing. Within my practicum and internship classes I have learned that there are far more skills and experiences that have truly contributed to my current professional identity where I have done additional research in specialties such as learning about chronic illnesses, traumatic brain injuries and the impacts of one's mental health. In addition, maintaining my weekly and group supervisions have been also helpful in staying informed with trends, practices and learning more about continuing education opportunities.
